MEARS Frequently Asked Questions


  • Is MEARS a commercial product?
    • No, MEARS is a Government off-the-shelf (GOTS) software as a service (SaaS) application.
  • Can contractors use MEARS?
    • Contractors can access MEARS via Common Access Card (CAC), commercial certificate, or an External Certification Authority (ECA) provided by an approved vendor.
  • Does MEARS process Classified documents?
    • MEARS handles Unclassified documents
  • Would my data be secure?
    • MEARS has acquired and maintains a Risk Management Framework (RMF) certified Authority to Operate. The main goal of this certification is to ensure that all DoD IS will maintain an acceptable level of information assurance (IA) and information security risk management throughout the life of the system. Users access MEARS via PKI Certificate Login: CAC, ECA, or a certificate provided by an approved vendor. User access is further controlled at the module, document, and drawing/frame level.
  • Who maintains the data?
    • MEARS Support is thoroughly qualified to administer all of your server needs. However, Program Administration training can be provided to transfer the administrative responsibility onsite.
  • Where is the MEARS Program Office?
    • The MEARS Program Office is located on Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.
  • How long is data retained on the MEARS server?
    • Data is retained indefinitely, including votes, comments, attachments, and revisions.
  • Does MEARS offer training?
    • Yes! MEARS provides On-Site and Remote training. Our support staff is qualified to offer phone, email, and in-person support when needed.
  • How long does it take to get started using MEARS?
    • How long it takes to get started is dependent on your schedule. We can have you ready to use MEARS in as little as 2 weeks!
